The Department of Defense has requested the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation to establish several standard treatments for the rehabilitation of historic exterior masonry. The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation has merged them into one standard treatment document and seeks public input on it.

In 2003 the Chairman of the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) appointed a Task Force on Archaeology to identify archaeological issues that merited the ACHP's attention. One issue identified was the need to better encourage responsible use of archaeological resources for public benefit, including education programs and heritage
