Statement of Organization, Functions and Delegations of Authority

Part J (Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry) of the Statement of Organization, Functions, and Delegations of Authority of the Department of Health and Human Services (50 FR 2512925130, dated June 17, 1985, as amended most recently at 71 FR 583965 8397, dated October 3, 2006) is amended to reflect the reorganization of the Office of the Director, Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry.

Section JB, Organization and Functions, is hereby amended as follows:

After item (9) of the functional statement for the Office of the Director (JAA), Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (J), add the following: (10) serves as primary liaison between ATSDR and the National Center for Health Marketing on communications and marketing science, and its associated research and practice.

Delete in their entirety the title and functional statement for the Office of Communications (JAA4).

Availability of Final Toxicological Profiles

This notice announces the availability of seven updated final toxicological profiles of priority hazardous substances. This is the 19th set of toxicological profiles that ATSDR has compiled.

Notice of the Revised Priority List of Hazardous Substances That Will Be the Subject of Toxicological Profiles

The Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980 (CERCLA or Superfund), as amended by the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986 (SARA), requires that ATSDR and the Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) prepare a Priority List of Hazardous Substances commonly found at facilities on the CERCLA National Priority List (NPL). The Priority List of Hazardous Substances includes substances that have been determined to be of greatest public health concern to persons at or near NPL sites. CERCLA as amended also requires that ATSDR and EPA periodically revise the Priority List of Hazardous Substances.

Pursuant to these CERCLA mandates, the agencies announce that based on the most recent information available, they have developed and now make available a revised CERCLA Priority List of 275 Hazardous Substances.
